Navigating Public Transportation in Memphis

This learning experience was developed for adult clients at Friends For All in Memphis. It walks learners through planning a trip, reading route and schedule information, and completing a ride with confidence.

Adult clients at Friends For All whose educational backgrounds, reading levels, digital-literacy levels, technology experience, and access needs vary widely.

Using public transportation is a practical, high-stakes task for people without reliable personal transportation. Hesitation usually comes from uncertainty about the process, not from a lack of motivation.

This learning experience was intentionally designed for clarity, confidence, and practical application. Because the intended learners have varied educational backgrounds, literacy levels, and technology experience, I chose straightforward Rise interactions, predictable navigation, plain language, and focused practice rather than adding complexity for its own sake.

The goal was to reduce unnecessary cognitive load and help learners concentrate on the real task: building confidence using public transportation in Memphis.

The course uses a deliberately streamlined structure with familiar, consistent interaction patterns. Because the learner experience is shorter and navigation is intentionally straightforward, extensive front-loaded navigation training would have added content without adding meaningful learner value. Orientation support was therefore kept proportional to the complexity of the experience.
